'Postcard from Home' is an ambitious, multi-technique piece I made as a class project in college. It features enameled waves and seagulls, acid etched writing on the back, a colored pencil sky, and a rotating element that spins to make the seagulls "fly". Each wave and the beach itself was designed with the intention to slide in and out of the postcard, though that became tedious and unnecessary in reality. The postage stamp features a horseshoe crab, a callback to my first piece. The card is addressed to "Em", which in itself carries weight, as I went by "Em" or "Emi" at the time of this piece. I recall having a tough time deciding what name, if any, to put on the piece. I chose to honor myself and my home by including these personal pieces of my life. Unfortunately, my insistence on this design choice prevents me from submitting this piece to most shows and exhibitions, though it did win 1st place in an open call for 'Water' in craft through Artrepreneur.com, April 2020.
