Secret Beach Bridge
Medium
Copper, brass, colored pencil, sand, found object
Date
2019
Location
Peters Valley School of Craft, Layton, NJ
This piece, inspired by a hidden train bridge in Manasquan, was created during a 5-day workshop at Peter's Valley School of Craft in 2019. The workshop, instructed by Jack and Marilyn Da Silva, focused on creating a personal narrative through metal forming and colored pencils on copper; it was an incredible class and something I consider essential to my artistic development. The bridge itself is at the "secret beach": a small access area to the glimmer glass at the corner of Perrine boulevard. I've walked beneath this bridge when the tide was low, I've sat under it as a train passed above. The area was one I frequented as a child, usually with my more adventurous friend egging me on. It holds a special place in my memories, so I created a rendition of it for this class, complete with a railroad spike from the tracks.
This piece won an Honorable Mention ribbon at the 2019 Monmouth County Fair.
